List of Costa Rica Birds Part 2 From Sun Heron to Pigeons

I continue to show the birds of Costa Rica. Today is the second part.

EURYPYGIFORMES - Eurypygidae

39 (1100) Sun heron (Sunbittern, Eurypyga helias major)

Some taxonomists (for example HBW) distinguish Eurypyga helias major into a separate species Northern Sunbittern (Eurypyga major).

On the morning of 3 November, one bird was seen near the feeders at Selva Verde Lodge (Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, Heredia).
On 4 November, a couple of birds were observed in a tree by the river near La Mina (Turrialba, Caribbean slope in the Cordillera Talamanca).

On October 27, many yakans in the marshy fields of Hacienda Solimar, Guanacaste.
Seen in a wetland near Rancho Naturalista (Turrialba, Caribbean slope in the Cordillera Talamanca) on 3 November.
On November 5, birds of different ages were seen, including those with chicks, in the reservoir of the Tropical Center (C.A.T.I.E., Turrialba).
On November 8, they met in swampy areas near Esquinas Rainforest Lodge (Piedras Blancas National Park, La Gamba, Golfito, Puntarenas Province).
On November 9, one bird in a body of water off the Road Gamba - Jaco.

On October 26 and 28, we met at La Ensenada Lodge (La Ensenada Wildlife Refuge, Puntarenas).
On October 27, about 20 birds in the Salina fields at La Ensenada Wildlife Refuge, Puntarenas.
From 9 to 14 November, solitary birds met on the beach at the Punta Leona Hotel & Club, Jaco.
Sighted on a boat trip on the Tarcoles River (Puntarenas) on 10 November.

4 November, one bird on river rocks near La Mina (Turrialba, Caribbean slope in the Cordillera Talamanca).

From 11 to 13 November we met on the beach of the Punta Leona Hotel & Club (Jaco, Puntarenas Province).

On October 26 and 27, a large flock on the coast at La Ensenada Wildlife Refuge, Puntarenas. Up to 50 birds rested on the bridge at the same time.

Typical at La Ensenada Wildlife Refuge, Puntarenas on October 26 and 27.
October 27 are common in Hacienda Solimar, Guanacaste.
On November 9, we met along the Gamba-Jaco highway.
We met on November 10 at Carara National Park (Quebrada Ganado, Puntarenas).
From November 11 to November 14, they were seen on the territory of the Punta Leona Hotel & Club (Jaco, Puntarenas Province).
