Under natural conditions, krinum purple grows in the subtropical and tropical waters of South America and the Greater Antilles.

The plant has a relatively large bulb, about 6 cm long, on which there is a rosette with leaves. The leaves are even with wavy edges, their length is up to 40 cm, and the width is about 2 cm.The color of the leaves can be green or with a slight admixture of blue. The total plant height in aquarium conditions reaches 50 cm. Under good conditions, the purple crinum forms a large number of daughter plants.

A tropical type aquarium is suitable as a plant aquarium. The water parameters in it must meet the following conditions: temperature 20-28 ° C, hardness dH 2-12 °, acidity pH 5.5-7.0. Need effective filtration, water aeration and weekly water changes? parts of the water. For the normal development of krinum purple, the water must contain a minimum of nitrates. The plant requires bright lighting, the intensity of which should be at least 0.6 W / l, while the duration of daylight hours should be at least 12 hours. In addition, it is advisable to install the aquarium in a place where natural light from a window can enter. It is best to use coarse gravel as a soil, the layer thickness of which should be at least 10 cm.Pieces of clay should be placed under the roots of the plant. Before planting a plant, it is necessary that the new soil in the aquarium is kept for 2-4 weeks so that its microflora stabilizes.

Purple crinum grows slowly, giving one leaf at a time for a month. An adult plant does not like frequent transplants, so the planting site must be taken seriously.

Under acceptable conditions, the plant can bloom, releasing long peduncles with 6-10 flowers hanging down on the pedicels. The flowers are collected in an umbrella-shaped inflorescence. A small number of leaves are formed between the inflorescences. The flowers are white, pink or crimson. Each flower can be 15 to 20 cm in diameter.

The plant propagates by daughter plants, which are formed in the axils of the bulb. When 4-5 leaves appear on the daughter processes, they are separated from the mother bush and planted in the ground. In addition, it is possible to propagate crinum purple and seeds, planting them in a nutritious soil, where they will soon germinate.

And lastly, the leaves and tuber of the plant contain a poisonous substance, so you need to be careful when handling it and in no case do not take branches, leaves or flowers in your mouth. If in the process of caring for the aquarium you accidentally break a leaf or a branch of a plant, then wash your hands immediately so that there is no blood poisoning.
