... It still lives in the depths of the heart.
You are tastier than everyone, I am mesmerized by you
My gray belly yearns for you.

I loved you unrestrainedly and passionately
And a wild appetite awakened.
Do not forget to me the image of the Red Hat
And its taste will never be forgotten.

Maybe not tastier, but I really liked the poem =)) This is bird number 3. Name it)
Thank you!

Parmoptila rubrifrons Red-fronted ant (warbler) astrild (Sharpe & Ussher, 1872)
Three species, (Parmoptila jamesoni are sometimes regarded as a subspecies of P. rubrifrons) due to the similarity of sexual behavior, as well as the presence of papillae and mouth patterns in chicks, are preliminarily enrolled in the Astrildidae family Estrildidae.

Inhabits tropical low-lying humid forests in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Ghana and Cote Divoire.
They feed exclusively on ants.

Folidornis

Folidornis is one of the bird species in the family of short-winged warblers and the only species within the monotypic genus Pholidornis.

1. Etymology

The name of the genus Pholidornis in Greek means "scaly bird", which indicates the color of the head and neck of adult birds with numerous dark strokes on a gray background. The specific epithet rushiae is given in honor of Phoebe Ann Rush Phoebe Ann Rush nee Ridgway - the wife of American psychologist James Rush James Rush, for "encouraging people devoted to science and art."

2. Discovery of the species and taxonomy

The first specimen was taken in 1855 and fell into the hands of the American ornithologist John Cassin John Cassin, who believed that the new species belonged to the Australian-Asian genus of flower beetles Dicaeum. In 1857, the German zoologist Karl Hartlaub separated this species into the monotypic genus Pholidornis.

Subsequently, various researchers attributed the species to different families: as the flower-eating Dicaeidae, warbler Sylviidae, titmouse Paridae, sunflower Nectariniidae, honeydew Meliphagidae and astrildaceous Estrildidae, remizidae Remizidae.

On the basis of molecular data, folidornis is currently classified into a group of the superfamily Sylvioidea. The sister taxon of this genus is Chiliya Hylia prasina. Some researchers distinguish these two species into an independent family of Chylaceae Hyliidae. Mostly both genera are close to the short-winged warblers Cettia, scotocerci Scotocerca inquieta, and some others. The resulting family is called Cettiidae or Scotocercidae, depending on which species are included.

3. Description

The body length is 7.5-8 cm, which, apparently, makes it the smallest bird in the autochthonous African fauna. Weight - 4.6 - 5.9 g. This species has a pale buffy chest, the head is covered with thick brown striation. He is the lower part of the chest down to the rump, this bird is bright yellow in color. Legs are bright orange. Juveniles are less colorful and less striated.

4. Dissemination

The species is common in the lowland tropical forests of West and Central Africa. The range of the species corresponds to the border of the jungle - from Sierra Leone in the west to Uganda in the east and Angola in the south. An isolated population of the species belonging to the subspecies P. r. bedfordi, inhabits Bioko Island in the Gulf of Guinea, where the species is associated with forest margins, forest edges and secondary forests.

The following subspecies are known

  • P. r. ussheri Sierra Leone and southwest Nigeria
  • P. r. bedfordi island Bioko
  • P. r. denti Southeast Cameroon, Uganda and east of the Congo Basin to northwest Angola
  • P. r. rushiae Southeast Nigeria and up to Gabon

5. Biology

Basically insectivorous birds, a significant part of the diet is made up of scale insects and scale insects. Birds feed in the upper and middle layers of the forest. Quite often, birds move in groups of up to seven individuals, but extremely rarely form multi-species mixed flocks.

Reproduction data are scarce. The nest is built from plant fibers. It is located on large branches of tall trees. There are two eggs in the clutch. Sometimes non-breeding individuals of the same species take part in the construction of the nest, incubation and feeding of chicks.
